Sapphic Traffic is a D.I.Y. Queer collective established in Jan 2009. Set up in Leeds with the aim to provide a viable entertainment alternative for the LGBTQ community and their friends. We are sick of pink pound exploitation, the ongoing sexism and shitty phobia's on the Gay Scene.Our aim is to create affordable, safe and enjoyable events in which to dance, not-dance, drink, not-drink, talk, not-talk and experience music/arts in the company of like-minded types, spaces in which there are no presumptions, norms, or demands made of participants beyond extending respect to others involved. For all shapes, sizes, genders and persuasions.
Our inspiration for events and the ethos come from the likes of Manifesta Leeds, Yo Majesty, Kathleen Hanna, Ani DiFranco, Brody Dalle, Beth Ditto, Harvey Milk, Jean Genet, Miranda July, Hesta Prynn, Lynnee Breedlove, Jenny Lewis, ENVY, Shirley Manson, Sister Spit, Debbie Harry, Annie Lennox, Imogen Heap, Karen O, David Bowie, Kurt Cobain, Kate Jackson, Patrick Wolf, Lily Allen, Xenomania, Patti Smith, Corin Tucker, Stephen Fry, Daniela Sea, Lucas Silveira, Skin, Lady Sov, Ana Matronic, Antony Hegarty, Amanda Palmer, Josie Long and Eddie Izzard.
If your coming to a club night expect to hear a fair bit of Rock, Pop, Punk, Electro, Trash, Riot Grrrl, Power Ballads and Noisiness. DJ’s accept requests and cupcakes.
